Londoners - Rent out your home during the 2012 Olympics

As the 2012 Olympic Games looms ever closer on the horizon, the need for accommodation during July and August when the games will be taking place has already begun. With millions of visitors from all over the globe flocking to England’s capital it is already clear that the scramble for rooms will be a tricky one.

With this in mind the shrewdest Londoners can stand to make a nice little profit of their own from the Olympics, by renting out their house or flat as a short term let during the Olympic period. If you are unmoved by the thought of the Olympics being held in London, then what better way to spend a month in the Summer than a holiday away paid for by the letting of your home, with a little extra left at the end to help out with the mortgage or rent payments?

If this is something you think you might be interested in, then it would be a good idea at this point to call in the professionals. There are many letting agencies who specialise in short-term lets, with many having popped up in the last year that specialise in renting out properties specifically for the Olympic period.

Although there are sites were you can post up your home to rent yourself, with no need for a letting agent, I would still recommend the use of agent. Whilst the agent may take 5-10% of the money that you will be making, they add a level of security and knowledge that can prove vital.

So for those of you reading this that either do not live in London, do not want to leave your home during the Olympic, or both – do not be put off. If you live in a particularly desirable location with good rail or road links to London, then it will still be possible to attract visitors to the games to rent your home.

For example, flats in Brighton – just under an hour on the train away from London – are currently being advertised as Olympic rentals, providing the prospective renter with not only easy access to the games, but also beautiful beaches and an escape from the hustle and bustle of London.
