Summer is almost here and that means it’s time to prepare your home to match the changing season.  Whether you run a business, rent out your space as summer vacation accommodation, or just want to make the most of the sunny season, here are 5 tips to prepare your home for the summer months.

Summer Cleaning

We’ve all heard of spring cleaning, but summer cleaning is even more important. As the summer months’ approach, it’s time to pack away all the wooly blankets and winter accessories and get your house geared for long summer days and nights.
It’s best to set aside an entire Saturday and get the family together for a summer cleaning spree. Start by packing away all your winter items – clothing, blankets, heaters, etc. – and bringing out your summer accessories.  A top tip is to keep organised. Fill plastic containers with all your seasonal items, and pack them aware securely each time the season changes. You might also find that vacuum sealing that bulky winter wardrobe frees up loads of cupboard space. Make this a routine you follow every 4 months to make sure your home matches the season.

Do a Little DIY

Windows that get stuck, doors that slam and broken air-conditioning units might have been okay during the winter, but in summer you need every tool you have to be working to keep comfortable in the heat. Make a list of all the problems around your house and address them during spring when the weather is nice. Again, if you make this a habit, you will look after the value of your property and find that minor problems don’t escalate into expensive renovation and repair jobs later down the line.

A Splash of Colour

Match your home to the mood of the season. Depending on the weather in your area, winter might call for a pallet of navy blue, greys, and darker colours, but that just looks gloomy in the summer. Add light colours like teal, white and yellow to make any home feel like it’s dressed for summer, too.

Make It a Home

Summer is all about having family and friends over, and it needs to feel accessible, open and welcoming to your guests. If you’re not sure how to get that homely feel, check out some of the accommodations and summer homes in Dripping Springs,
Texas. This area is renowned for open, inviting homes that bring the wonder of nature indoors.  A summer break to
this stunning part of Texas is also highly recommended!

Shift to Entertainment Mode

Get your fridge ready for summer by swapping soups for summer popsicles, tea for iced tea, and hot meals for tapas and finger foods. You might also want to get your barbecue ready for impromptu dinner parties with friends. Apart from your fridge, make sure any outdoor or communal area is ready for guests. That means ample seating, and, if you have space, space for people to spend the night.

Rest and Relaxation

Summer is all about relaxing and enjoying the warmth. Make sure your house is ready for friends and get ready for long nights of laughter.
